Mission Statement

We in St John's warmly welcome you to our website.

We aim to be a church which puts its faith into action by demonstrating God’s love to the world, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ, and supporting individuals and groups within the church and parish communities.  We encourage participation by all ages in worship, outreach and social events.

If you are new to our community please browse other areas of our website and contact us if we can be of any help.

We are delighted to announce that our Call for a new minister has been answered.

After morning service on 15th January the Rev Allison E Becker BA MDiv was overwhelming elected as our new minister. Her induction service was held on Thursday 23rd February 2017 in St John's Church, Onthank.

allisonBecker.jpegRev. Becker is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary (divinity school) having earned a Masters of Divinity. She received her ordination as minister from The Presbyterian Church (USA).

Prior to acquiring her masters of divinity in preparation for her calling (a three to four year post-graduate degree in the American schooling system required for ordination in the PCUSA), she also attended university and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology (having completed studies in biology, literature and the arts).

Ministry over the years has been wide and varied, from Santa Ana to South Hollywood; with time spent serving alongside and learning from members of the global church in Mexico, Kenya and Romania. Her ministry has found her preaching in different pulpits, being a keynote speaker at conferences, leading prayer ministry, leading Fresh Expressions outreach, and leading ministry through the arts in very diverse contexts. She has a passion for God's word, God's people and seeing them raised up and sent out in the power of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.

It was two years ago that the specific call of God sending her to Scotland came; this call was affirmed by colleagues in the PCUSA and by the Church of Scotland. She is glad to be serving now as a minister with the Church of Scotland.

She is joyful about the future of ministry at St John's and looks forward to all God has planned!
